Kirkland, WA – Wave Broadband, a local cable, internet and phone service provider in western Washington, has volunteered to provide high speed internet and home phone service to an ailing student from Twin City Elementary School in Stanwood, WA as part of a KOMO4 Problem Solvers community effort.

Wave was contacted by KOMO's Problem Solvers earlier in May with a request to help a third-grader at Twin City Elementary get access to his classroom and schoolwork. The student, Dylan Redlinger, has been unable to attend school since January due to his battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia. KOMO informed Wave that Dylan's school had been rallying the community to help bring the classroom to him, and hoped to be able to set up a web cam so that the student could attend class virtually through the internet.

As the Redlinger family has been hoping to take care of Dylan's health treatments, his school wanted to get help from the community to get him some computer equipment, supplies and internet and phone access so that he could continue his class work. They reached out to KOMO's Problem Solvers to help them figure out how to get the community involved.

"When we received the call, we immediately wanted to help make this happen for Dylan," said Michael Talpai, Regional Vice President of Wave Broadband. "After conducting a site survey at the Redlinger's residence, we realized that we'd have to do some construction work to bring our fiber-optic network straight to Dylan's house." Talpai explained that the house was not connected to Wave's network, but the company was willing to complete the needed construction work to be able to provide service to the Redlinger's home.

Wave will be providing two years of High Speed Internet and home Phone Service to the Redlinger family. Additionally, the company has arranged for Dylan to participate in the Wave-sponsored Stanwood-Camano Soap Box Derby this Saturday, June 19th. "We wanted to do our part in this community effort to help a family in need," said Talpai, "And providing internet and phone service to a student who needs to be connected to his school is a perfect fit for Wave."

Wave has been actively providing community support through the company's Connecting Communities Initiative, which includes community events and sponsorships, donation of services, local classroom support, and more.
